New digital series educates young audience on financial planning
Mumbai, June 27h 2015- Bankbazaar.com, a leading financial marketplace, today launched the second season of the digital series ‘Let’s Talk About Money’. Through this unique knowledge-driven module, BankBazaar.com aims to educate and empower young audience about various aspects of financial planning and take charge of their finances. The second instalment of the ‘Let’s Talk about Money’ series is now live on Bank Bazaar.com’s YouTube Channel.
The Indian financial sector has seen ‘low involvement’ by the younger audience given the high level of documentation and complex terminologies, deterring them to take decisions on their own. Despite many initiatives by financial institutes, young consumers still find it difficult to select the right brand for financial products like loans, insurance etc and negotiate for customized preferential rates. The endless paperwork only serves to further alienate them from the financial planning process. Bank Bazaar’s initiative ‘Let’s Talk About Money’ aims to overcome young audience’s apprehension associated with personal finance by imparting financial literacy with a touch of humour.
Today the digital platform has emerged as a powerful medium to engage and connect with the youth. Of late, digital channels have been very successful in effectively leveraging humour to discuss and debate a host of issues including politics, topical developments like net neutrality and much more to garner participation from young audience. Against this background, the second instalment of ‘Let’s Talk About Money’ will cover basic yet important aspects of personal finance, including the need to invest in life insurance at a young age, insights on fixed and floating rate of interest, EMI components and planning, benefits of prepaying home loan and much more.
Commenting on the launch of the new series, Mr. Adhil Shetty, CEO said, “We want the young, internet-savvy consumer to start engaging with the financial services category, hence this initiative aims to simplify things for them. We want them to have the knowledge and understanding to evaluate various options for themselves.”
Vinay Singh, Head – Brand Marketing at BankBazaar.com said, “We believe that buying financial products should be as simple as buying any other product, like a shirt or a burger. We want consumers to start engaging with financial products in a language that they can relate to and have fun while at it. If the audience can enjoy discussing their taxes, then the job is more than half done!”
Saurabh Kanwar, Founder – Flarepath, the Social Media Agency for BankBazaar.comsaid, “The upcoming ‘Let’s Talk About Money’ Youtube series is based on the idea that personal finance does not have to be a dry, serious subject. By using a humorous, lighthearted format, we can use “infotainment” to both inform and entertain our audience and get them to engage with us. This approach to tackling financial topics and products has never been attempted quite like this before and we believe it has great potential. We look forward to a good response.”
The series is being done with popular personalities on YouTube channel – like Sahil Khattar – who are known for their trademark style to discuss a mix of serious topics with a punch of humour and desi drama that enables an easy connect with a young audience. So, while the series is humorous, each video achieves the aim of educating the audience a thing or two about personal finance. This is a first-of-its-kind initiative as no other brand has taken such an unusual route in the financial products category. While there have been light-hearted approaches to finance in the past, none have gone the whole hog and made the audience actually laugh out loud about topics like EMIs, life insurance, interest rates, and even taxes.
